Arsenal Boss Wenger Labels Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United As 'Untouchables'

The Frenchman only has the highest praise for his Scottish counterpart, and believes Sir Alex's side are the new "Untouchables."

For the whole of the 2003-04 season Arsenal remained unbeaten in the league, a feat only matched by Preston North End back when fans' modes of transport to-and-from games included horse and carriage in 1888-89.

Both teams were rightly lauded as "Invincibles," and the Gunners' streak even stretched to a 49-game run without loss. A hot-streak that, ironically, was abruptly halted by Manchester United.

Arsene Wenger though believes Sir Alex Ferguson's current crop are "untouchable."

Much has been made of the club's defensive rigidity, and the reigning English, European, and World champions are on course for an unprecedented domestic clean sweep, as well as maintaining their challenge for top continental honours, too.

"They could be the new untouchables," Wenger told Sky Sports.

"We're on a very strong run at the moment and we will give everything until the end of the season, but right now Manchester United look untouchable."

He continued: "They are 12 points ahead of us with a game in hand against Fulham.

"Our basic target is to get the Champions League, but they will surely go for the title," he concluded.

Should United win their game in hand against Fulham on Wednesday evening then they will extend their lead at the top of the table to five points.
