The Serbian stopper was on guard to shut out Chelsea's advances and keep Edwin van der Sar's sheet clean, but the defender is more chuffed that action in the final third is bearing fruit...
Since their 5-0 defeat of Stoke City in November, Manchester United went on a run of one-goal games in the Premier League. Impressive tallies against Blackburn Rovers and Gamba Osaka aside, it seemed that goals had dried up in the domestic division for the World Champions.
The 3-0 victory over Chelsea was therefore twice as sweet, as not only was it an emphatic win over one of their main competitive rivals, but it also - to paraphrase Nemanja Vidic - meant that they are back in the goals.
"We have needed to score more," Vidic is quoted by the club's official website as saying.
"This season the problem has been scoring at the right times. If you can get one in the first half the other team has to open up a bit more to chase the result.
"Once we get into that situation we are very dangerous because we have such great attacking players.
"That is what we have finally managed to do. That early goal is crucial because so often this season the opposition has pulled 11 men behind the ball and we have found it hard to break them open."
He continued: "It was an important weekend because Liverpool only drew at Stoke and we beat Chelsea.
"We just have to concentrate on ourselves. We still have some big teams to play at Old Trafford and the results depend on us, not them."
Wayne Rooney remains the club's top scorer in all competitions this season with 11 goals. Recently crowned FIFA World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo is close behind with ten goals. Dimitar Berbatov and Carlos Tevez are both on eight, while Nemanja Vidic, impressively for a defender, has five.
