Vidic braced for FIFA ruling: United defender could receive three-match ban

Manchester United's defender Nemanja Vidic gets his marching orders from referee Ravshan Irmatov

Nemanja Vidic will discover on Friday if he will play any part in Manchester United's Champions League clash with Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan.

The Serbia international could receive a three-match ban after he was sent off in the FIFA Club World Cup final against Liga de Quito.

Vidic was sent-off for raising his elbow into the face of LDU Quito’s Claudio Bieler four minutes into the second half of his side’s 1-0 win.

He will serve a minimum of a one-game ban which means he will miss the first leg of the first knockout round against Inter at the San Siro.

A FIFA disciplinary committee will study the incident and decide if the offence was worthy of a longer suspension.

United have pointed out that AC MIlan defender Kakha Kaladze was sent-off in the 2007 final and served no European ban but the disciplinary rules were different then.
