Manchester United To Appoint Young Successor To Alex Ferguson

The Red Devils' board will opt for a promising young manager when the Scot decides to retire...

According to a report in the British tabloid The Sun, Manchester United have decided to go for a younger manager when Alex Ferguson decides to step down from his post at Old Trafford.

The report stems from the fact that the Red Devils' owners, the Glazer family, replaced a veteran staff-member at their American Football team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with an inexperienced coach.

Jon Gruden had led the Buccaneers to Super Bowl success in his first campaign as head coach and later took them to the play-offs on two further occassions during his six-year stint.

However, that was not enough to stop the Glazers replacing him with 32-year-old Raheem Morris, a relative rookie in the NFL.

The Sun claims that this indicates United will not consider the likes of Ottmar Hitzfeld and Marcello Lippi when Ferguson steps down, but will instead opt for somebody who has shown promise and will oversee a long-term project.
