Christoph Metzelder: Cristiano Ronaldo Is Not Worth €100m

Real Madrid defender, Christoph Metzelder, has criticised Cristiano Ronaldo for saying players are worth €100 million in this time of crisis, reposting by explaining he thinks that Messi and Robben are the best right now...

Christoph Metzelder has looked at football from an economic point of view by disagreeing with comments made by Cristiano Ronaldo yesterday.

The Portuguese superstar claimed that he and Kaká were worth the price tag of €100 million, but Real Madrid defender, Metzelder, does not agree.

"They are special players, who make the difference in a team, but in a time of financial crisis, I do not believe that one player is worth €100 million. That is not normal," he told Marca.

Indeed, no-one is yet to break the €100 million mark for a transfer fee, but it seemed like Kaká was close to doing so when details of his potential switch to Manchester City were discovered.

However, Metzelder claimed today that two other players have caught his eye, and they are both in Spain at the moment.

"I believe that right now [Lionel] Messi is the best player in the world, although he is young and he needs people to help him on the pitch. A strong team is more important than individuals but at this time, for me, he and [Arjen] Robben are the best," he asserted.

For Real Madrid and Metzelder, things seemed to have improved lately with the arrival of Juande Ramos; a change that has seen them starting to win games regularly.

The German admitted that having the new coach has helped him and his chances of playing.

"The coach is always an important figure for a player because he is the one that chooses the players. For me, a lot has changed with the arrival of Juande Ramos, as I have a greater chance to play. He is happy with my work and with my effort, although a lot of competition exists in my position. I believe that things have improved for me," he acknowledged.

Despite the arrival of Juande though, the league still looks a distant dream for Real Madrid, and Metzelder said that the Champions League is their goal now.

"We have worked very well in the last few weeks and we are ready for the league - it is always the first objective - but we are also looking at the Champions League game against Liverpool. It is worth everything for us this year," he opined.

"We have to win all our games and hope that Barcelona slip-up. It is difficult, but it is our duty as players of Real Madrid. We know that the Champions League is a tough competition. They are two large challenges for this team. We have improved and we are ready to confront the two objectives with our all."
